Why Do People Spam Blogs?

I have several active web sites.  I try to make it a point to install a blog (which is very easy to do) at each of my sites.  I typically choose WordPress and install directly from my dashboard or cpanel.  Once I make my blog known I am amazed at how many people submit SPAM to my blogs.  I always make sure that the setting for admin approval is set to true (so should you).  If not, those comments would be live.

Do They Really Think I am Going to Approve Those SPAM Posts?

I am amazed everytime I get a SPAM post.  Do these spammers seriously think I am going to approve the SPAM?  I certainly welcome valid comments from readers.  It shows me they are interested in my blog and what I have to say.  So why can't the spammers take a few more minutes and actually post something useful.  And besides,
